Sleeps 4
Westfield Cottage lies at the heart of the owners tranquil stock farm in a stunning setting in Upper Coquetdale, on the edge of The Northumberland National Park. The cottage itself commands superb views to the south towards the Simonside Hills and to the east over the Rothbury Hills. Its more intimate views are over the meandering Wreigh Burn, which runs through the farm. This low-lying land is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is home to a host of birdlife as well as otters, deer, badgers and foxes. There are trout in the burn and a good run of salmon twice a year. Despite the farms complete seclusion, the charming village of Rothbury is only three miles away and Thropton, even closer, has a post office, garage and two pubs offering bar and restaurant meals.
The cottage was originally a farm-workers bothy. It later became home to the local water bailiff who would have been able to keep an eye out for poachers without straying too far from his fireside. More recently it has been home to a nationally respected gallery specialising in ceramics and fine crafts. It has now been restored, extended and transformed into a wonderfully spacious holiday home, full of light and colour and with great attention to detail and the use of natural materials. It comfortably accommodates four people, with ample room for a cot in the large, en suite, double bedroom. It is centrally heated throughout with additional warmth and comfort from the wood-burning stove.
The cottage has its own secluded garden and a stile leads directly onto grazing land alongside the burn. Guests are welcome to wander through the farm and woodlands children might like to picnic near or paddle in the burn.
Westfield Cottage is available for the following weeks. All weeks run from Saturday to Saturday. Weeks not displayed are fully booked. Please call to make a reservation or for more information.
Pets are welcome at a small charge of £10 per week.
