Duration: 3 hours | Cost: £65 (open booking), £95 (one-to-one); £120 (one-to-two); £180 for a group booking of up to 6
09:00 to 12:00 (typically)
Visit the Northumberland coast with Andy and share his enthusiasm for the natural world. You’ll learn about atmosphere and light; how to see the potential in a landscape and how to make beautiful, natural photographs that document the story of the landscape as you pass through it.
ThisPhotoTrail will consist of around 3 hours walking the coast, talking about the art of natural photography and taking pictures. We have a break for coffee half way round. Andy will introduce you to his world of landscape photo-journalism. We will travel fairly light and visit many locations to tell the story of our day on the coast.
Comprehensive course notes, coffee/tea.
This Experience is sold as a Gift Voucher, enabling the voucher recipient to schedule a mutually convenient location, date & time with Andy.
£65 is the cost for tuition as part of a maximum group of 4. Once we have agreed a date, that date will be posted on my website and others may join us for a sociable but manageable group.
If you would prefer a guaranteed one-to-one session, this is available for £95 (£120 for two people booking together, £180 for a group of 4 booking together)
The PhotoTrail start time will depend on the time of year and what you want to get out of the course. Sunrises are spectacular in Northumberland but happen pretty early in June!
The locations used will be on the north Northumberland coast anywhere between Bamburgh and Alnmouth or can be based further afield by arrangement.
There will be a requirement for a fair degree of fitness as we will cover a few miles in each session. All walking will be on paths or sandwe stay off the slippy rocks.
Whatever camera you own is fine. I use a compact camera for a lot of my everyday photography and I am not precious about equipment. Something better than a phone is a good idea (although I love my iPhone camera and use it lots)
If you have a gadget bag that brims with equipment that’s fine too. The PhotoTrail will be tailored to meet your ambitions (if you can carry the bag!).
Andy is a one of the North-East’s most highly regarded Wedding and Portrait photographers having moved his successful business to the area from Edinburgh in 2008.
A photo-journalist at heart, Andy applies his art to the landscapes and seascapes of Northumberland and has been recording his “Photographic Diary of a Dog-Walker on the Northumberland Coast” since 2008. (find it at www.Northumberland360.com).
Andy aims to introduce his students to the “art of natural photography” which includes elements of photo-journalism but, having 30 years of photography behind him, he is well versed in the time honoured techniques of classical landscape photography too.
As part of natural photography Andy is an advocate for “invisible Photoshop”; the end result should be a photograph not a digital manipulation. Andy limits his post-production techniques to those that mimic the traditional darkroom.
